Talk Title
The AMBIENT-BD study — “Using sleep and circadian rhythms data to understand trajectories and clinical outcomes in bipolar disorder”
Talk Abstract
Liam shares his lived experience of bipolar disorder type II, offering a raw and human perspective that enriches the clinical understanding of the condition. While science seeks to quantify symptoms and outcomes, Liam highlights the often-unspoken realities — how bipolar disorder shapes identity, routines, relationships, and decision-making in ways data alone cannot fully capture.
Drawing from his involvement in early-stage research led by Maynooth and Edinburgh University the AMBIENT-BD study "Using sleep and circadian rhythms data to understand trajectories and clinical outcomes in bipolar disorder" Liam reflects on the critical role of lived experience in bridging the gap between researchers and the needs of patients. He explores the nuance of non-compliance, the limitations of metrics, and the power of empathy in both research and care.
