Pioneers of Irish Neuroscience: A History of Brain Science in Ireland
(edited by Áine Kelly, Zsuzsanna Zarka & Richard Roche, launched during Brain Awareness Week in 2022.)
In this new publication, the editors have compiled a collection of fifteen biographies of pioneering figures in the history of Irish brain science, as well as an additional chapter providing brief sketches of some other noteworthy figures. For each of the chapters, a brief biographical sketch is written by an academic or clinician with a particular interest in the work of that person (and whose own work and career has been influenced by that figure), and each biography is accompanied by an original portrait by the noted Irish artist Ciara Kenny (better known as @Ciaraíoch on social media). We believe this is the first such collection of biographies of these pioneers of Irish neuroscience.
