1. Opening Statement
Neuroscience Ireland (NSI) conforms to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and respects your privacy and your rights to control your personal data. The present policy outlines what type of data NSI collects from you, how we collect it, why we collect it, how we will use it and how we store it.

2. What type of information is collected by Neuroscience Ireland
Neuroscience Ireland is a Controller of the personal data that you (the data subject) provides us. We collect the following types of personal data:
• Name
• Name of work place or Institution
• Phone number
• Mobile, Home or Business as provided
• Email address
• Country
• Research Interests
• Type of membership
• Full membership or Student / Post-doctoral fellow membership
• Credit Card details
• While we request your credit card details for payment of your registration, this information is not stored.

3. How is the data collected
The data is collected on behalf of NSI by our service provider Keynote PCO when you register for membership with NSI. Keynote PCO retains the information for the duration of your membership.

4. Why is this data collected
The data you share with us is used to assess membership eligibility and for communication with members.

5. How will the data be used
As a member of NSI, you are automatically registered under a unique reference member ID, which enables your preferential access to the NSI member benefits and your details are associated with this member ID for the duration of the membership.

In case you have forgotten your membership details, these can be retrieved by communicating with the Neuroscience Ireland’s Secretary.

If you have been a member of NSI in the past, your email information is currently stored in our extended membership database for the purpose of communication and dissemination of relevant information to the neuroscience community and you might receive further communication from NSI. We do not store other personal data.

As a member of NSI, you are automatically granted membership of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS, Upon your registration, NSI transfers your name, email address, institution and country to FENS for membership purposes. FENS may use this information to communicate with you. More information on the FENS privacy policy can be found here

Your personal information with the exception of your email address registered in the extended membership database is automatically deleted at the end of your membership. Should you wish to have your email details removed from the extended membership database or have your membership details deleted before the end of your membership, please email Please be aware that once your membership details are removed, you will lose your membership with NSI and you will not be able to take advantage of your member benefits.

6. Where and how is your data stored
Your personal data is securely stored:
a. on the Keynote PCO server
b. locally on password protected PC’s in the offices of the President, the Secretary and the Communications Officer of NSI.
c. on the FENS servers

7. Sharing & Disclosure
We strive to keep your personal data safe and only share it when necessary. We recognise that you have a right to know that the information you share with us is maintained confidentially. We only share your information as authorised in this statement. We do not rent or sell your personal information to other parties.
